Harga pupuk kimia makin mahal? Pakai saja kascing. Itulah hasil penelitian Instalasi Penelitian dan Pengkajian Teknologi Pertanian (IP2TP) Denpasar. Sawi yang ditanam menggunakan media bekas memelihara cacing (kascing) sebanyak 5 ton per hektar meningkatkan panenan sawi sebanyak 28,088 ton per hektar. Padahal biasanya dengan pemberian 150 kg Urea, 250 kg ZA, 50 kg SP-36, dan 50 kg KCl hanya menghasilkan 12,826 ton per hektar.

Introduction

Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) is among the most important crop species in the Cucurbitaceae family. This cultivated species is frequently used in the tropics, subtropics, and milder portions of the temperate zones of both hemispheres. Cucumbers are mainly used in the preparation of salads and pickles (Whitakes and Davis, 1962).

Earthworm Castings as Plant Growth Media

Author:
Rhonda Sherman

Several researchers have demonstrated that earthworm castings (vermicompost) have excellent aeration, porosity, structure, drainage, and moisture-holding capacity. This paper will discuss the effect of vermicompost on plant growth. The following is based upon the paper "The Potential of Earthworm Composts as Plant Growth Media," by Clive Edwards and Ian Burrows in Earthworms in Waste and Environmental Management edited by Clive Edwards and Edward Neuhauser.

Dosen Jurusan Ilmu Tanah Fakultas Pertanian Unud Dr. Ir. Ni Luh Kartini, M.S. mengatakan hal itu Rabu (13/4) kemarin.

Soil bio-test to evaluate comparative fertility of soils and effects of adding earthworm compost

Tran, Thi Bich Ngoc
Preston, TR
National Institute of Animal Husbandry, Hanoi, Vietnam

This trial was conducted at the Livestock Research Center (LRC), Laos. The treatments were source of soils and levels of earth worm compost (EC) arranged in a 4*4 factorial with 4 replications, in a completed randomized block design . Maize was used to measure fertility of soils and effect of adding earth worm compost. Four types of soils were taken from different places around LRC (Good, medium and poor soil and sandy soil) and four levels of EC (0, 10, 20 and 30%).

Goat and Rabbit Research Centre, Sontay, Hatay, Vietnam

This trial was conducted at the Goat and Rabbit Research Centre, Sontay, Hatay, Vietnam from April to December 2004. The aim was to evaluate the response of water spinach to fertilization with increasing  levels of nitrogen (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 kg N/ha over 28 days) in the form of earthworm compost or urea. The biomass  yield response to fertilizer N was positive and curvilinear and was greater  for the earthworm compost at the higher levels of application of N.

The hydroponic fodder is of great nutritious quality and it is easy to produce. The dung drain slurry can be used in its production as well as for producing compost, which is a substrate for plants which, inoculated with beneficent fungi or arbuscular mycorrhizae Glomus, decrease the costs of chemical fertilizers because these fungi improve the absorption of minerals.
